Welcome, adventurers! My name is Sean, and I’m the founder of Next Step Adventure. Growing up in the stunning Blue Mountains, my passion for the outdoors and hiking has shaped my journey.
I served thirteen years in the Australian Defence Force with both the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force. As an Airfield Defence Guard, I honed my skills while facing challenges on deployments in Timor, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
A pivotal moment for me was serving with the Australian Federation Guard, where I had the honor of commemorating the 75th anniversary of Kokoda. Meeting veterans during this time ignited my desire to preserve the memories of those who served and highlighted the resilience of ordinary people.
After leaving Defence I was searching for my next adventure. This is when I walked the Kokoda Track— an unforgettable journey that deepened my connection to the land and its stories. There, I met Cletus, my porter, and our friendship blossomed. Since then, I’ve tackled many demanding hikes, including the Heysen Trail, each teaching me valuable lessons about adventure and self-discovery.
Now, as I guide fellow adventurers along the Kokoda Track, I witness the transformative power of nature. It’s a place for reconnection, which inspired me to create Next Step Adventure. My mission is to share our rich history and help you find your own path back to yourself.
I invite you to join us on this incredible journey. Together, let’s explore, learn, and grow.
Welcome to Next Step Adventure!.
I grew up in Oivi Ridge, Papua New Guinea, along the historic Kokoda Corridor. Immersed in the region's natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, I developed a deep appreciation for my homeland.
After completing my education in Kokoda and Popondetta, I faced limited job opportunities back home. In 2006, my first trek along the Kokoda Track opened my eyes to the trail's historical significance and the global friendships it fosters. I deeply respect the legacy of the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels and WWII heroes.
A significant moment came in 2008 during a visit to Sydney, where I participated in an Anzac service alongside war veteran Owen Basket. This experience honored my country and the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels.
Returning to the Kokoda Track, I worked there until 2017, when I met Sean O'Gorman. As his porter, I embarked on an extraordinary journey that forged a lasting bond. The adventure deepened my understanding of resilience, camaraderie, and the trail's profound history.
Now, with Sean, I’m excited to launch Next Step Adventure, continuing to honor the Kokoda legacy and share its spirit with others.
